Canola Oil Lowers Risk of Breast Cancer

Findings of a new study suggested that consuming canola oil during pregnancy and breast-feeding lowers the risk of breast cancer in the offspring.

According to the study which will be presented at the annual conference of the American Association for Cancer Research, compared to corn oil, women following a canola oil-rich diet give birth to girls with a reduced risk of breast cancer.
Findings revealed a high-in-canola-oil diet in pregnant and lactating mice changes the breast cancer regulating genes in the offspring, leading to the development of smaller tumors containing fewer glands in a smaller fraction of the mice.

Considering the fact that breast and prostate cancers are both hormone sensitive, similar factors influence the development of these two cancers.

Scientists advise pregnant and lactating women to substitute corn oil with canola oil, in order to tackle prostate and breast cancers in their offspring.
